Kiosk - Alternate Language

Kiosk - Alternate Language

Overview

The Kiosk supports the display of information in an alternate language. This is for circumstances where a translation of the display (into a localized language) is desired. All aspects of the user interface as well as the menu can be displayed in the alternate language.

Examples presented in this document will be based on French as the alternate language.

Setup Process

Setting up the alternate language is a four-stage process:

  1. Select alternate language.

  2. Configure kiosk terminal settings.

  3. Configure alternate language on Kiosk user interface

  4. Configure alternate language on menu(s).

1. Language Selection

To use an alternate language, you must define two languages to be available for display on the Kiosk. This includes the language that will be the primary language, as well as the alternate language. Once the languages have been defined, only one of these languages can be selected and displayed at a time.

Setting Language in the BackOffice

  1. Select the General Setup module.

  2. Select System Configuration, then select Properties.

  3. Select the Page 1 tab.

  4. Enter the primary language in the POS Language 1 field (under the Language section - figure 1).

  5. Enter the alternate language in the POS Language 2 field (under the Language section - figure 1).

2. Configure Kiosk Options

Additional options to control how the kiosk displays the alternate language can be configured for individual kiosk terminals.

User Bilingual Language Prompt

The kiosk can be configured so that users are prompted to select the language they wish to use when they begin the process of placing an order.

The kiosk will display only one language when this setting is not enabled.

When the user selects a language, the kiosk will remain in that language until the order is complete. Before the language is selected, all user prompts are displayed in both languages, but some buttons will appear only as the default/boot language.

Configuring User Language Prompt in the BackOffice

  1. Select the General Setup module.

  2. Select Kiosk Config, then select Properties.

  3. Select a scheme from the Kiosk Configuration Schemes pane (Figure 2).

  4. Select the Prompt language checkbox.

  5. Select Save Changes.

  6. Select Exit.

Overriding the Primary Language

A boot/default language other than that which is set on the BackOffice can be set on the kiosk. This may be desired in circumstances where a set of kiosk terminals need to boot in the alternate language.

Configuring Default Language in the BackOffice

  1. Select the General Setup module.

  2. Select Kiosk Config, then select Properties.

  3. Select a scheme from the Kiosk Configuration Schemes pane (Figure 2).

  4. Select the desired language from the Default language drop-down list.

  5. Select Save Changes.

  6. Select Exit.

3. Kiosk User Interface Setup

The kiosk user interface can be translated so as to display text in the alternate language. The kiosk reads the language information from a configuration file that contains the translated text to appear on the interface. Each element of the interface can be translated by customizing this file as desired.

We currently offer translations in French and English.

4. Menu Setup

The kiosk can display alternate language information for menu items, option items, menu sets, and quick menu sets.

In order to display information in the alternate language, the kiosk will read and display the contents of fields designated for the alternate language associated with each item.

The following outlines the fields that must be populated for each item type:
