POS Troubleshooting

This article outlines all POS Troubleshooting issues.

When I click my POS icon nothing happens?

Problem: When clicking on the BackOffice or POS icon nothing shows on the screen.

Troubleshooting Tips

1. Turning off Hardware Acceleration:

  • Run Task Manager – select the [CTRL] + [ALT] + [DEL] keys and then start the Task Manager
  • Verify the following are running:

Solution: If the Task Manager is showing the processes are running, then try turning off Hardware Acceleration on video card.

2. Check Icon shortcut is working:

  • Try running the program from the file location rather than using the shortcut
  • Windows: c:\volanteV4\volantePOS.vbs

Solution: If the program starts from the executable than redo the shortcut.

3. Check the services are running:

*Verify that all services are working. From the Admin Tools start services

Solution: If the services are not running – try rebooting the computer.

Problem: POS freezes at 96% - Loading Peripherals

Normally it stops at 96% for the following reasons:

  • Printer is offline
  • IP address is incorrect on BackOffice
  • Printer type set in back office is incorrect
  • Missing lib files (copy cheztesoro files from another computer)

Getting "System time is not set properly" warning when starting up on Windows 8

This issue is a side effect of the Windows User Account Control (UAC) security scheme introduced to the Windows family of operating systems starting with Windows Vista.

In Windows 7, this was easy to fix because you could disable User Account Control easily from the Users section in control panel. However, in Windows 8, even though you can turn off that same slider, it does not completely disable UAC the same way it would in Windows 7.
While not a perfect solution, you can disable UAC completely in Windows 8 by following the directions below. However, this also disables all Metro apps (the "tablet" interface bolted on to desktop mode).

  • Open regedit
  • Find the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  • In the right pane look for EnableLUA and modify its value to 0.
  • Close regedit

As this is a Windows product, it's an optional, but good idea to reboot the system to make sure that it picks up the necessary changes.

To re-enable Metro apps, (and with it, this warning dialog), follow the instructions above, but set the value of EnableLUA to 1.

Another way using the EXE file.

  • Change the Short cut to point to the EXE in the Volante V4 Directory.
  • Then set that EXE to run as administrator.
  • Add the EXE to the Start Menu.
  • First time it is run you will get a message that asks if it is run correctly.  Say yes to this and after it should work as intended.
