What Does it Mean to '86' an Item?
In the food service world, "86" is just a quick way to say something's no longer available. Maybe a dish sold out, an ingredient ran out, or it’s temporarily off the menu. Using the admin screen to 86 an item is a simple way to prevent it from being sold at the terminal, keeping things running smoothly.

Performing an Item 86
POS Terminal level
Item 86 refers to items that are part of the standard menu, but are currently out of stock and unavailable for sale. These items do not need to be removed from the quick menu if they will be sold again, and setting the item to Item 86 will temporarily prevent the sale until the hold is released.
Navigate to the Admin Screen on the sidebar.
Select the 86 Items button.
The 86 Items settings window will appear. Functions include:
Search for available items to add to the list
Restore all 86 items (releases all holds on all items)
Add items to the 86 list
Items in the list that can have 86 hold applied
Adding Items to the 86 List
Items must be added to the list before an 86 hold can be applied. Items that are often set to 86 can remain on the list, while items that may only need an 86 can be removed once the hold is listed.
Use the Add Item to the List area to locate the item to add to the Item 86 list.
Use the Search window to locate the item:
Search by All, or search by Exact Code (barcode)
Input Search Text: Search for an item by name using the onscreen virtual keyboard.
Select the Enter key to display a list of items with matching names.
Check the box beside the item(s), and press the Add to the List button.
Choose if the item is to be listed Store Wide (all locations) or Local Group (only in this group of terminals), and press Confirm.
The item will be added to the list.
Setting an Item to 86 (unavailable)
Select one or more item(s) to put on an 86 Item hold.
Press the 86 Item button on the lower right of the screen.
Choose an 86 Reason, and then choose if the item will automatically be returned to regular sale at the start of the next business day.
Press the Confirm button to add the 86 hold. The item will be marked unavailable for ordering in the Menu.
The item will also turn grey with an 86 Icon display on the Cashier Quick Menu, and will be unavailable for sale.
Releasing a Select 86 Item (now available)
Select one or more item(s) to release from an 86 Item hold.
Press the Restore Items button on the lower right of the screen.
Press the Confirm button to restore the items.
Items are restored and available for ordering on the Quick Menu.
Releasing All 86 Items
Press the Restore All 86 Items link at the top of the screen
Press the Confirm button to release all 86 item holds.
Deleting an 86 Item from the List
Press the Can Icon located to the far right of the item.
Press the Confirm button to delete the item from the 86 item holds list.
